How can i get out of this awkward situation with this girl?

Ok, me and this girl got really close in freshman year, and i didnt really talk after tht, but i realized tht i really liked her and asked her to winter formal, but she said she was already takin someone, and i made it really awkward because i didnt talk to her since i asked her in febuary not because i was mad at her, but because i didnt know what to say, but i really want to stay friends with her at least. I was too shy to get her number during freshman year cuz i thought she would think i would like her, and she proly didnt have the same feelings back, so i wanted to preserve the friendship, until i asked her in soph year oh course. I really never talk to her on fb cuz i dodnt want to annoy her, the last time i did was last summer, and sayin something now would b really awkward. Should i act like nothing happened, or tell her i want things the way they were, or should i do something else?
